JIS Response to Haiti Earthquakes

Dear Alumni Community,

We are all stunned by the devastation and human suffering in Haiti as a result of the earthquake. While we have no families from Haiti here at JIS, our hearts go out to everyone who is touched by this crisis.

You will know from watching the tragedy unfold that right now the most helpful contribution individuals can make is cash, and I imagine that many of us have already contributed to emergency efforts through our preferred charities/aid organizations.

This is to share with you that while JIS is not launching an official drive at this time, we certainly support any efforts which classes, student groups or others generate in response to this crisis. At the same time, we are awaiting news of our sister school, the Union School in Port-au-Prince, and anticipate that when more information is available, we – along with many other international schools – will identify how best we might contribute, continuing our precedent of supporting children after such a traumatic event.
